Miss Teen Nigeria Amirah Akpan was crowned Miss Teen Africa on Saturday night in a star-studded ceremony in London, making her the first Nigerian to ever win the crown.
The second runner up was Miss Tino Gundu who represented Zimbabwe and the first runner-up was Miss Abigail Kabirou who represented Ghana.
Speaking after she was crowned with the Miss Teen Africa tiara, Miss Amirah said: “I can’t believe it! We have all put in some hard work but excited to be the winner tonight. God bless everyone who wished me well.” The aspiring Law student has said she’ll use this opportunity to give back to the society, “To inspire young girls like me to have big dreams; to be a beacon of hope to the hopeless and to encourage young women to work tirelessly towards their goals, dreams and ambitions.”
The competition, for the first time, introduced a sports category where a contestant is given the opportunity to model any sportswear and activities of their choice as a way to promote health and fitness among young people.
Miss Amirah who will now be the goodwill ambassador of Miss Teen Africa Foundation will be expected to compete at an international pageant next year.
